History Milestone: Pacoima Historical Society Unveils San Fernando Valley Timeline

Mark your calendars for June 6th at 11 AM—history is being made.

Pacoima Historical Society Unveils San Fernando Valley Timeline

For years, the Pacoima Historical Society has worked hard to make sure our community’s stories are heard. Too often, important voices and contributions have been left out of history. On June 6th at 11 AM, we will celebrate a major milestone with the unveiling of the new “Historical Timeline of the San Fernando Valley” exhibit at the Museum of the San Fernando Valley.

This unveiling marks the completion of a three-phase project started by the Museum and the Pacoima Historical Society in 2024. At the event, we’ll also celebrate the highly anticipated release of a new book by historian and author Crystal Jackson, “Valley Chronicles: Told & Untold Stories of the San Fernando Valley.”

What to Expect

This isn't just another museum exhibit or book launch. This represents decades of research, countless oral histories, and the dedication of community members who believed that our stories matter. The Pacoima Historical Society has been at the forefront of documenting the untold narratives of the San Fernando Valley—from the indigenous Tataviam people who first called this land home, to the civil rights leaders who fought for justice in our streets, to the everyday residents whose lives built the Valley we know today.

For too long, San Fernando Valley history has been treated as a footnote to Los Angeles history, and Pacoima's contributions have been marginalized even within that narrative. We've been working to change that, one story at a time, one archive at a time, one community presentation at a time. The Valley Chronicles book and the Historical Timeline exhibit represent the culmination of this work—a comprehensive, accessible record that centers our community's experiences.

The Historical Timeline exhibit will showcase the rich tapestry of Valley history in a format that brings our past to life. Visitors will journey through pivotal moments, meet forgotten heroes, and discover connections between events that shaped our region. The Valley Chronicles book provides deeper context, telling these stories with the detail and respect they deserve.

This is mainstream history—not alternative history, not supplementary history, but the complete and accurate record of what happened here. We've worked with museums, educational institutions, and historians to ensure that these narratives are preserved and accessible for generations to come.
