Pacoima Historical Society, a 501(c)(3) organization, was established in 2016 to preserve the history and culture of Pacoima, California, one of Los Angeles’ oldest towns. PHS has worked tirelessly to gather thousands of items, including photos, films, videos, and documents that chronicle the area’s estimated 1500-year history. Since our inception, we have made tremendous strides in educating the city and America about Pacoima’s extensive history.

 

Our efforts have led to institutions of higher education, including UCLA, Princeton, and the University of Michigan-Flint, teaching Pacoima’s history to classrooms and educators because of its diverse, impactful substance. We are currently developing a Pacoima history curriculum for LAUSD instructors to incorporate into mandated ethnic studies courses set to begin in 2025.

 

Major networks such as ABC and CBS, and radio stations KNX, NPR, and KQED, have featured PHS in their community programming and news stories. Various podcasts have also shared Pacoima’s rich history. Subsequently, independent film producers have found Pacoima’s unique societal contributions useful and have incorporated our vast library of images into their productions. Our media archives can be licensed for both educational and commercial use. PHS membership is required for viewing access to our collection.
